S.A.R.A. Executive Meeting Minutes – Dec 11, 2001

Call to order: Meeting began at 7:30 p.m. at the Swansea Town Hall.

 

Approval of Agenda with changes, replacing 61 Kennedy with 47 St Olaves:

Motion: Bill Roberts Seconded: Marianne Fenner Carried

 

Acceptance of previous minutes with changes: November 20, 2002

Add that Victoria Masnyk wrote a letter regarding Fort York II. Confirming that Victoria Masnyk wrote a letter regarding St Olaves. Change meeting name from Board to Executive.

SARA VISION AND MANDATE

The constitution and bylaws were reviewed. Victoria Masnyk had still not received a copy of the Articles. A motion was made by Joan Oreto and seconded by Ritvars Bregzis that Victoria Masnyk have the Articles distributed prior to the next executive meeting for review. Carried

 

BOARD COMMITTEE RESPONSIBILITIES

Merle Hudson is continuing to work on a summary of the committees.

A motion was made by Ron Braun and seconded by Lina Volpe that there would not be a SARA committee representative for the Swansea Public School. Carried. Jamie Bell stated that the school councils would like to have a broader reach into the community. However, Merle Hudson will keep her ears open for an issues with the school when she attends the Swansea Committee Centre meetings.

 

MEMBERSHIP

Louis Gris reported that there were 13 memberships received; 2 renewals. There are now 141 paid members. $160 will be given to Joan Oreto for deposit. There was also $10 in donations. Victoria Masnyk will clarify to Louis Gris who the donations were from. There was a motion to accept these memberships by Louis Gris and seconded by George Dubauskas. Carried

 

FUNDRAISING

Louis Gris reported that there were now 91 tickets sold. At this time the gross revenue is $1,280. $212 has already been paid to the Village Players, leaving a new profit of $1,068. Louis Gris will be passing on $384 to Joan Oreto for deposit. It was noted that the Village Players only take $4 for each actual seat filled. Thanks was given to Louis Gris for all his great work. Thanks was also given to Bill Roberts for proposing the original idea.

 

TREASURER'S REPORT

Expenses: Lina Volpe for $29.17 for the 2001 Annual General Meeting.

A motion was made by Bill Roberts and seconded by Ron Braun to pay this expense. Carried.

Refer to the treasurers report submitted by Joan Oreto.

There was a motion made by Joan Oreto and seconded by Bill Roberts to accept the Treasurers Report as of December 11, 2001. Carried

 

LOCAL ISSUES

 

8 SOUTH KINGSWAY

Refer to copy of letter dated December 1, 2001 submitted by Victoria Masnyk.

 

1947/1997 BLOOR STREET WEST – CONTEXT DEVELOPMENT

Peter Keefe stated that the site plan agreements that were sent to for approval to city council contained 40 issues, including environmental testing, Bloor Street dropoff and pickup, garbage pickup. The hearing with the OMB is scheduled for January 2002. The Ministry of Environment is now involved with this project. It is still not confirmed how many units have been sold.

 

HUMBER CYCLING/PEDESTRAIN TRAIL

Jamie Bell is still to write a letter regarding this matter. Jamie Bell reported that a presentation from Ryerson students was made regarding the project. They did a comprehensive assessment and proposal on this area. Jamie Bell will continue to monitor.

 

FRED VICTOR CENTRE – LAKESHORE/WINDERMERE

Jamie Bell stated there was no update at this time.

 

SECOND SUITES

Bill Roberts stated that there was no update at this time.

 

FORT YORK II

Bill Roberts stated that there was no update at this time.

 

47 ST OLAVES ROAD

Bill Roberts received a call from David Miller's office. There will be a meeting at David Miller's Constituency office, at 546 Annette Street, on Thursday, December 20th at 4pm, with the developer. Victoria Masnyk and Bill Roberts will be in attendance to represent SARA.

 

MUNICIPAL SHELTERS

Refer to Bill Roberts letter. Bill Roberts stated that the city is looking at setting up a task force on this issue.

 

WINDERMERE BY THE LAKE – REON DEVELOPMENT

Ron Braun stated that there was a demolition ceremony hosted by David Miller. The Stelco site is quickly coming down. Jamie Bell stated that the new name of the project is Windermere by the Lake. Lina Volpe expressed here concern that no one from the South Kingsway Village condominium corporations are on the Liaise Community. Lina Volpe will write a letter to Reon Development to ask that this condominium complex be represented as they are the closest large project to this new development. Bill Roberts stated that the next Liaise Community meeting is being held on January 7th. Jamie Bell stated that the Public Arts Committee has been set up for this development. Vicki Vancas expressed her concern that they work with local artists in the community.

 

COMMITTEE REPORTS

 

CORRA – CONFEDERATATION OF RESIDENT & RATEPAYERS ASSOCIATIONS

Bill Roberts indicated that the issues still have not been resolved, and that he is still monitoring.

 

COMMITTEE OF ADJUSTMENT

Refer to letter to Dan Antonacci, Acting Manager/Deputy Secretary-Treasurer dated December 11, 2001 by Victoria Masnyk.

 

HUMBER YORK COMMUNITY COUNCIL

Merle Hudson contacted David Miller's office, and they recommended that she get the information regarding community councils off the City of Toronto website. Merle Hudson and George Dubauskas will now work on getting information this way.

 

GARDINER LAKESHORE TASK FORCE, CENTRAL WATERFRONT PLAN II & TORONTO OFFICIAL PLAN

Victoria Masnyk still has to write a letter regarding this the Gardiner Lakeshore Task Force, and will now also send a copy to the Toronto Star.

Refer to the letter sent to David Miller dated December 11, 2001 by Victoria Masnyk regarding development along the western waterfront.

Bill Roberts reported that he purchased a copy of the Central Waterfront Plan II for $20, and that this plan is proposing more residential development along the waterfront. A motion was made by Bill Roberts and seconded by Marianne Fenner that went Victoria Masnyk writes the letter regarding the Gardiner Lakeshore Task Force, the she also writes about this plan and the issues SARA has about it. She will also ask that a copy of this plan be provided free of charge to SARA and any other resident ratepayers group/association. Carried.

Bill Roberts to continue to monitor the Toronto Official Plan.

 

HIGH PARK CITIZENS ADVISORY COMMITTEE

Jean McMullan noted the two projects in common with this group are the Context project and the Garden of Hope in High Park.

 

OMB

Bill Roberts reported that there are no updates at this time.

 

RENNIE PARK

Merle Hudson reported that the centre received additional funding, and now have $62,000 for this project.

 

SWANSEA AREA LOW COST HOUSING PROJECTS

Still on hold at this time.

 

SWANSEA MEMORIAL LIBRARY

George Dubauskas reported that all is quiet right now.

 

SWANSEA PUBLIC SCHOOL

Lynn Clay mentioned that she had not heard that the school would be expanding. Jamie Bell mentioned that there is talk about this.

Merle Hudson will keep her ears open for any new information.

 

SWANSEA TOWN HALL

Louis Gris stated that there was no hot news at this time.

 

SWANSEA RECREATION CENTRE

Merle Hudson stated that she had not yet received her meeting minutes. The committee has made a huge wish list, and it is in the process of being prioritized. Jamie Bell stated that the centre's new years event on December 31st will be starting at 9pm, with lots of activities planned.

 

TRAFFIC CALMING

No update at this time. Merle Hudson stated that there are more and more issues with speed bumps and traffic flow in the area, and that the topic will be discussed again at city council in January. Jamie Bell stated they the signs have been taken down on Windermere.

 

WORLD 19

Louis Gris reported that there is no update at this time.

 

NEWSLETTER

Bill Roberts reported that the next issue will be mailed in mid/late January.

 

MARKETING

Refer to John Meijer proposal regarding accepting credit card payments on the website for membership, and hosting suppliers for SARA's website. It was discussed and agreed that SARA would not accept credit card payments for membership. A motion was made by Merle Hudson and seconded by Ritvars Bregzis to use infinityws.com host the SARA website for the fee of $54 per year plus taxes. Carried. Vicki Vancas stated that the marketing committee will be meeting in January.

 

THE SAMUEL AND SAIDYE BRONFMAN FAMILY FOUNDATION

Jamie Bell wrote a proposal for the funding under the Swansea Town Hall banner of all Swansea organizations. He will report back in January.

 

OTHER ISSUES

Victoria Masnyk noted she received a card from Bill Haines thanking SARA regarding his mothers passing.

 

NEW BUSINESS:

No new business at this time.

 

ADJOURNMENT

A motion was made by Joan Oreto and seconded by Bill Roberts to adjorn the meeting. Carried. The meeting adjourned at 9:15 p.m. However, everyone continued to eat, drink and be merry. A delicious and fattening feast was had by all.
