Minutes of Swansea Area Ratepayers’ Association Executive Meeting – October 19, 2004

 

Present: Ritvars Bregzis, George Dubauskas, Ed Gaigalas, Louis Gris, Frances Labelle, Pat Reavy, Bill Roberts, Nick Singh, Sybil Wilkinson, John  Meijer, Mike Gibbs (Councilors office)

 

Regrets: Ron Braun, Peter Keefe, Bonnie Schulman, Merle Hudson

 

1. Call to Order and Declaration of Conflicts of Interest:

The meeting began at 7:38 p.m. at the Swansea Town Hall.  There were no declared conflicts of interest.

 

2.   Approval of Agenda:

The agenda was approved. Future agenda to be recorded to reflect current items first, monitor items last.

3.   Minutes:

Ed Gaigalas moved, G. Dubauskas seconded approval of minutes of September 21, 2004                     Carried

 

4. Membership Report:

L. Gris moved, seconded by R. Bregzis the attached membership report.                                               Carried

 

5. Fundraising Report:

Please sell tickets to Bloor West Village Players Benefit performance.

 

6. Treasurer’s Report and Approval of Expenses:

The attached report was moved by J. Meijer and seconded by G. Dubauskas                            Carried

The expenses of L Gris of $96.41 and expenses of J. Meijer of $67.97 were moved by G. Dubauskas and seconded by P. Reavy.                                                                                                                        Carried

 

7. City Communications:

Mayor’s office has not responded to SARA’s report. Letter regarding Daycare.

Gerard Kennedy office re OMB reform. Ratepayers want input. E. Gaigalas  volunteer to join Committee.

 

8. Land Use Matters:

 

a) 1947-1997 Bloor St. W. – Context Development:   House next door is sinking. Councillor is meeting with residents re. traffic.

      b) Windermere by the Lake- Daycare facility, nothing to report. 

c) Southport Plaza Redevelopment: nothing to report.

d) 1900 Lake Shore Blvd. W. (former Meow Club site) – nothing to report..

e) 286 Ellis Ave  - neighbour appealed decision to OMB

f) 3 Briorcroft- continues to maintain carport

g) 169 South Kingsway- Oct 28 hearing date

h) Municipal Shelters – nothing to report

i) Gardiner Lakeshore Task Force – Letter to Mayor asking to review and reinstate committee

j) Toronto Official Plan and Swansea Part II Plan   see on city website

k) Fred Victor Centre/ Joyco Station - nothing to report

l) Humber Cinema – Nick S. reported on meeting. There is a new plan but not an official application

                        Now 10 floors, 50 units, new architect, 7X density, 1 & 2 BR units 35 parking spots, 2 loading                         spots, mixed uses.

 

9.           Liquor Licenses:

a)           Billy Bob/The Fan – nothing to report

b)    Dark Horse correspondence with D. Miller

 

11        Humber River:

a)         Humber Pedestrian Trail – continue to monitor

 b)        Humber Bay Treatment Facility– continue to monitor

 

12      Neighbourhood Issues:

a)         Petro Canada Station – 8 South Kingsway – continue to monitor

b)         Community Council      – nothing to report

c)     Traffic calming              – continue to monitor

d)    Second Suites               – Nothing new to report.  Continue to monitor.

e)         258 Windermere            nothing to report 

f           )           Swansea Mews            –continue to monitor

g)         337 Windemere              awaiting  OMB decision

h)         47 Mayfield                  –SARA won, lot severance not granted, Mr Laughlin not responsive on issues of front wall and main wall. Decision indicated that intensification not desireable.

 

13 Community Organizations:

 

a)         Community Police Liaison Committee – nothing to report need new representative

b)         High Park Community Advisory Council   nothing to report

c)         Swansea Community Recreation Centre & Rennie Park   Octoberfest Dance on  Saturday, October 23 at the Community Centre.[time:7:00 pm to 1:00 a.m  Dinner  10:00 p.m. Cost: $15:00 All proceeds are for  the recreation Programs at the Community Centre.

d)         Swansea Historical Society – nothing to report

e)           Swansea Memorial Library and Friends of the Swansea Memorial Library   November  6 Borrow a book day, 10:30 to 2 Also book sale.

f)           Swansea Public School – no report

g)                  Swansea Town Hall Board of Management – Reminder of Remembrance Day Nov. 11 in Rousseau Room, Library is a Memorial

h)                  Confederation of Resident & Ratepayer Associations (CORRA) – Sybil Wilkinson agreed to convey SARA’s concerns re mapping to the October 4 meeting of the Planning and Transportation Committee .

i)          )World 19  – Community Information Newsletters  have resumed.
