STELCO
SARA appeared before the South-West Community Council to oppose the proposal and the total failure to properly and adequately inform the community of the term of the proposed zoning by-law. While the community council passed the by-law unamended, Councillor David Miller arranged for a meeting to review the draft by-law and development agreement. SARA and the community representatives attended and some improvements were made to the documents. SARA continues to monitor this matter, and is pressing for reform of the process to ensure genuine community involvement in planning matters.

BILLY BOB'S
Many of you will remember that we supported the concerns of the residents north of Bloor Street over the creation of a roof tap patio at Billy Bob's. The owners appealed The Alcohol & Gaming Commission refusal of the application. The appeal was to be heard 20 September, 2001. We have been advised the Alcohol & Gaming Commission is vigourously opposing the appeal. Neither the City or SARA were served by the owners and as a result are not parties to the appeal. If the adjournment goes beyond the next Council Meeting, Councillor David Miller will request that the City appear in support of the Community and the Alcohol % Gaming Commission.

COMMUNITY POLICE LIASON COMMITTEE
Bill Haines is our representative on this committee.

MEOW CLUB
The City war successful before the courts in closing it. We continue to monitor the matter. We have a concern that there may be an attempt to erect high-rise condominiums. For updates please contact J. Bell at 416-604-7421.

TRAFFIC CALMING.
This has become a major issue in Swansea. The York-Humber Community Council has approved a circle for the junction of Coe H ill/Budgell/Winder- mere/St.Olaves. SARA continues to monitor these matters.

JOY OIL STATION
SARA continues to monitor this situation and wrote a strong letter when we felt the City was not adequately protecting the foundations of the station, and suggested that the city consider relocating the station.

1947 RLOOR STREET WEST.
The appeal failed. At present there are a series of meetings occurring to deal with site plan issues. In addition there appears to have been changes done to the plans that were before the Board, which will require further approvals.

SWANSEA MEMORIAL LIBRARY
We continue to keep an eye on the Library. Please remember if we do not use it we will loose it. Remember it is as a living memory to those From the Village of Swansea, who died in the First World War. RESIDENTIAL DEVELOPMENT ALONG LAKESHORE BLVD.
With the introduction of housing at theJoy Oil rite, SARA has requested confirmation that the City will not erect or approve further housing along the north side of the Lakeshore between the Humber and the CNE. Given the Fung Report and other pressures, SARA is concerned that the City may turn the Western Beaches into another Harbourfront where the view of the Lake is cut off by High Rise developments and public land becomes privately held. Councillor David Miller has supported the concerns of SARA.

HUMBER RIVER PEDESTRIAN CYCLING TRAILS
This has been a bury summer. Representatives from SARA met with City staff who felt a cycling trail along the Humber on the Swansea side was not practical. William Roberts reminded the staff that Gunars Martinsons had been promised that the redesign of the bridges would allow the path, and that the reason we did not request an environmental assessment many years ago war the promise that residents living on the west side of Swansea would have as direct access as possible to the mouth of the Humber. The consensus of the SARA reps. war that the cycling path could be Further to the east but that a pedestrian path clearly designed for that purpose should follow the banks of the Humber as much as possible. Councillor David Miller echoed the sentiment by reminding staff he personally had promised Gunars Martinsons this would happen before Gunars died.

SWANSEA AREA LOW COST HOUSING PROJECTS
SARA has sent Jamie Bell, Louis Gris and Vickie Vanes to be our representative on this ad hoc committee in the Swansea area.

61 KENNEDY AVE.
SARA was contacted by a former executive member and agreed to support the concerns of the area residents. Our understanding is that the matter war adjourned to allow the residents and the owners to discuss the proposal.

CITY PLAN
SARA continues to monitor this matter. While official plans may seem remote from day to day matters, they set the tone for the direction of a community. The City Urban Development Department has suggested major changes which would reduce the present protections Swansea has and instead go to a "design driven" plan. If this becomes the standard, then developments with even greater impacts than that of the 1947 Bloor street project will become the norm. That is why we need your help. Please renew or join SARA and, if you can, attend our fundraiser.

SWANSEA TOWN HALL- RAVINE (BASEMENT) EXPANSION
The Swansea Town Hall Board of Management and the City of Toronto Facilities and Real Estate Staff will hold a public meeting at the Swansea Town Hall on Monday, October 2~rr( at 7:30 p.m. to Present the draft plans for the work that was suggested in 1995 byGunars Martinsons. He proposed that along with some needed repairs to the front patio, that additional useful space could be created below ground.
